Andrew J. Davis Jr.

CBMM is dedicated to community service, as exemplified by the late Andrew J. Davis Jr., who took great pride in his work with CBMM and his efforts to mentor youth in the Greater Boston area. He drew many lessons from life experiences, from his “country” upbringing in Tennessee, to the 1968 race riots, to serving in the United States Air Force and the Korean War. He learned to appreciate the joy in lending a helping hand and serving community.

Although Davis already had an engineering degree, he returned to school for a second degree in Social Work, which allowed him to assist people through job placement programs until cancer retired him. He also volunteered his time every night of the week and served on the board of such organizations as Action for Boston Community Development and the Allston Brighton Community Development Corp.

Davis’ years of service garnered many awards, including the 1989 Good Neighbor Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the 1996 Boston Herald Community Hero Olympic Torch Relay Award, and the 1999 Alston-Brighton Unsung Hero Award.
He was especially fond of his mentoring work with CBMM and believed that every one can make a difference. "Anywhere I live or work I have to be part of the neighborhood issues." The Brotherhood of CBMM strives to keep Andrews' torch burning bright.
